Maralee E. Gruey

Maralee E. Gruey, age 101, of Alliance, passed away on February 22, 2022.

She was born on July 28, 1920 in Conneaut, Ohio to Delano and Jennie Mae (Jones) Gruey.

Maralee graduated from Ohio University in 1949 and received her master’s degree from the University of Wyoming in 1955. She taught in Alliance, Pierpont, Ohio, Virginia, England, Germany and Japan.  Maralee was a member of First Presbyterian in Alliance, the Alliance Garden Club, Alliance Women’s Club, Alliance Area Retired Teachers, POE, Church Women United, the YWCA and three area line dancing groups. She was also a charter member of the American Association of University Women.

Those left to cherish her memory are her nephew, Carl (Diane) Gruey; and nieces, Diana Theiss, Patricia Hansen, Janet (Edd) Turner and Dee Marie (Chuck) Rutherford.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, DeStewart Gruey and Jack Gruey; her sisters, Sara Mae Gruey, Ida Grice and Marguerite Graff; and an infant brother, Carl Gruey.

Per Maralee’s wishes no services will be held. Interment will be at City Cemetery in Conneaut.
