Margaret E. Shoemaker

Margaret E. (McAlister) Shoemaker, age 93, of Alliance, passed away at 3:30 p.m., Friday, November 10, 2017, at Homestead Assisted Living in Hartville.
Margaret was born February 23, 1924 in Raleigh, North Carolina, to Carl and Gladys (Miller) McAlister.
She was a graduate of Marlboro High School and employed as a cook with the Marlington School System. She worked during the war building planes for Goodyear.
Margaret was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church. She loved playing cards, crocheting, sewing, crossword puzzles, vegetable gardening, canning and baking, especially apple pies.
Survivors include her husband of sixty-seven years, Robert D. Shoemaker whom she married April 2, 1950; daughter, Carol L. (James T.) King; grandchildren, Jennifer T. (Nick) Roesler, and Matthew R. (Christen) King; great-grandchildren, Nathaniel Roesler and Adalyn King; and brother, Donald McAlister.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Carl McAlister and Wayne McAlister, sisters, Wilma Hufford and Cora McAlister; and daughter, Jean A. Shoemaker.
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, November 18, 2017, at Aldersgate United Methodist Church with Rev. Nancy S. Manner officiating. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home, and 12:30 p.m. prior to the service at the church Saturday. Interment will be at Marlboro Cemetery.
