Maria Anna Cristian, age 91, of Alliance, died at 8:38 a.m. Monday, November 15, 2010, at Community Care Center.
She was born January 19, 1919, in Romania to Gheorge and Anna (Vasu) Smadu and came to the United States in 1987, having lived the last 16 years in Alliance.
She was a high school graduate and a graduate of the Institute of Pedagogy in Blaj, Romania, and employed as a teacher.
Maria attended St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Survivors include her son, Alex (Ann) Cristian of Canfield, Ohio.
Maria was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Alex Ilie Cristian, whom she married July 16, 1943 and who died March 3, 2000; two sisters; two brothers; and a son, Dorin.
A Private Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Fr. Donald Feicht officiating. Interment will be at Locust Grove Cemetery in Canfield.
Arrangements are by Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home, 75 S. Union Ave., Alliance, Ohio 44601.
