Marie J. Shanks

Marie J. Shanks, age 88, passed away on December 2, 2024. 

She was born on October 13, 1936, in Canton, to Vernon and Dorothy (Devers) Scott.

Marie was a graduate of Alliance High School and worked at Mount Union College for over 33 years until her retirement. She was a member of Aldersgate Family Methodist Church and the Alliance Senior Center. 

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Carolyn (James) McCune; sons, Edward (Linda) Shanks Jr. and Richard (Linda) Shanks; six grandchildren, Andrew, Christopher, Freda, Hope, Jennifer, and Robert; eight great-grandchildren, Kameron, Fulva, Niyah, Liam, Rowan, Quinn, Ella and Caleb; siblings, Irene Stackhouse and Thomas (Bonny) Scott; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edward Shanks Sr.; and sister, Sarah Baylor. 

The family would like to express their sincere thanks to Marie’s Caregivers and Aultman Hospice.

A funeral service will be held at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home on Saturday, December 7th at 11:00 a.m. with a visitation one hour prior. Interment will be at Highland Memorial Park.
