Marion Elizabeth (Myers) Snowden Buckmaster, age 93, of Alliance, died at 5:55 p.m. Sunday, February 3, 2013, at Roselawn Gardens of Alliance.
She was born April 1, 1920, in Alliance, to Howard LeRoy and Ona Fay (Niles) Myers.
Mrs. Buckmaster graduated from Alliance High School in 1937, received a bachelor's degree from Mount Union College in 1941, then a masters in nursing and nursing education from Case Western Reserve University in 1944.
She was employed as secretary/treasurer of East Liverpool River Rail Terminal Company and had also been an office manager for Myers Molasses Company, a registered nurse for 15 years at Alliance Community Hospital and a teacher at Washington Elementary School for seven years.
A member of the Marlboro Christian Church from the age of 4, Mrs. Buckmaster was a 60-year member of the Alliance Chapter of Eastern Star No. 296, 59-year member of Faith Court No. 43, Order of the Amaranth, 43-year member of Kadish Court, Ladies Oriental Shrine of North America, Daughters of the Nile Ishtar Temple No. 54 in Cincinnati, Advisory Board for Arthritis Foundation of Stark County, Mayors Commission on Aging, Mount Union College Women's Club, and the YMCA.
She also held the Grand Cross of Color for Rainbow Girls, was First Mother Advisor for Rainbow Girls in Alliance, past High Priestess of Ladies Oriental Shrine, past Royal Matron of Faith Court No. 43 Order of the Amaranth, and volunteered on the Patient Service Committee of the Arthritis Foundation for 10 years.
Survivors include her children, Rick Snowden of Alliance, Elizabeth Taylor of Fort Thomas, KY; sister, Ruth Ann Swift of Alliance; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two stepgrandsons; and four step great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George W. Buckmaster, whom she married June 14, 1976 and who died May 25, 1999; sister, Pauline Chagnot; stepdaughter, Dian Lloyd; and stepson, George Buckmaster, Jr.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 9, 2013 at Marlboro Christian Church with Edward J. Harnish, Minister, officiating. Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. prior to the service. Interment will be at Salem Greenlawn Cemetery.
