Marion Frances "Fran" Clarke

Marion Frances "Fran" Clarke, age 97, of Alliance, died October 7, 2014, at Community Care Center.
The daughter of John R. English and Margaret (Jacobs) English, she was born March 9, 1917 in Roscoe Village, Ohio, and lived in Alliance most of her life.
Fran graduated from Rayen High School in Youngstown, Ohio and Kent State University. She retired from the Alliance Review in 1995 after 54 years as Promotional Advertising Director.
A member of First Christian Church, she was a longtime member of the Women's Division of the Alliance Area Chamber of Commerce, serving as membership chairman for 26 years, and was the recipient of the Helen A. Hartzell Lifetime Achievement Award in 1997.
Fran was an avid golfer and member of Alliance Sleepy Hollow Country Club since 1948, and an honorary lifetime member. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of American Legion Post No. 166, Ladies Auxiliary of Alliance Elks No. 467, the Ohio State University Mothers Club, the Ohio Business and Professional Women's Club, the Alliance Woman's Club, and was a former Pink Lady at Alliance Community Hospital.
She is survived by her son, Craig (Joyce) Clarke of Alliance; grandchildren, William Jay Rastetter of Zeeland, MI, Teri Sue (Gary) Cox of Beloit, Tracy Rastetter of Alliance, Michael (Stephanie) Rastetter of Bellevue, NE; nine great-grandchildren; nine great-great grandchildren; many dear friends, nieces, nephews and special caregivers, Mary Lou Menegay and Caren Hammer.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Ray G. Clarke, whom she married March 21, 1946, and who died June 8, 1984; her sister, Ida Mae Penny; and brother, James A. English.
The family would like to express a special thanks to the staffs of Alliance Community Hospital PCU, Community Care Center, and Alliance Hospice for their outstanding care.
Services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Friday, October 10, 2014, at First Christian Church with Sue DeHoff officiating. Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday at the church. Interment will be at Highland Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alliance Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice, 885 S. Sawburg Road Suite 106, Alliance, OH, 44601.
