Marion L. Whaley, age 62, of Alliance, passed away at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 3, 2011, at his home.
He was born April 17, 1949, in Salem, Ohio, to Marion E. and Helen Louise (Brown) Whaley.
A 1968 graduate of Alliance High School, Marion was employed by American Steel Foundries as a chainman until retiring in 2003 after 30 years of service.
He was a member of the New Hope Church of God where he volunteered distributing food for the disadvantaged. He enjoyed fishing, camping, gardening and especially spending time with his family.
Marion is survived by his wife, Shirley A. (Knight) Whaley of Alliance, whom he married November 15, 1969; two daughters, Karen (Charles) Downes of Warren and Kim (Patrick) Ford of Kensington; six grandchildren Sheri, Emily and Joseph Downes, Bruce Whaley and Austin and Ashley Ford; one brother, Williard (Joy) Whaley of Beloit; four sisters, Frances (Don) Lanham of Bergholz, Mary Wood of Silver City, NM, Alice (Tom) Loudon of French Creek, WV and Patty (James) Roberts of Salem; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Patrick Daniel Ford Jr.; and two brothers, Ricky and Merlin Whaley.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 6, 2011 at New Hope Church of God with Pastor Don Nicely officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Highland Memorial Park.
