Marjorie Ellen (Snyder) France, 80, of Lakeland, Florida, formerly of Alliance, died Sunday, July 3, 2011, at the residence of her daughter in Peabody, Mass., after a short illness.
She was the devoted wife of Atty. William I. France.
She was born in Alliance, November 21, 1930, the daughter of the late Harry W. and Elizabeth H. (Carter) Snyder and had resided in Alliance most of her life before moving to Lakeland, Florida 20 years ago. While in Alliance, she was first employed in the Personal Dept. of the United Co-Op and later the Universal Co-Op in Alliance. She then became the manager and co-owner, along with her husband, of the Tri-City Airport in Beloit, for many years prior to her retirement.
She had been an avid golfer and enjoyed going bowling and playing bingo with her many friends. Marjorie was the former wife of Dempsey B. Collins.
She is survived by her husband, William France, of Lakeland, Fl.; a daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and Mario Carnevale of West Peabody, Mass; her two brothers, Ralph and Olan Snyder, both of Alliance; her three sisters, Sara Stobert of Lakeland, FL, Katherine Lindsley of Cleveland, and Maude Goldsby of Macon, GA; five step-children; and many nieces and nephews. She was the grandmother of the late Chelcie Armstrong.
A Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, July 8, 2011, at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 9, 2011, at the Chapel at Fairmount Memorial Park with Rev. Karl Stonebraker officiating. Burial will be in Fairmount Memorial Park.
