Martha Estelle Baker, age 101, of Alliance, died at 4:20 a.m. Thursday, May 8, 2008 at Bel-Air Care Center.
Martha was born, July 20, 1906 in Alliance, Ohio to Francis Homer and Nina Ethel (Wilson) Day and was a lifelong Alliance resident.
She was a graduate of Alliance High School where she served as Valedictorian.
Martha formerly attended First Christian Church.
She was employed at Manhattan Dry Cleaners, Montgomery Ward as a bookkeeper, with Dr. Haiss as a receptionist and was a self-employed seamstress.
Martha is survived by her children, Evangelene (Al) Custar, Nelson Baker, Walter (Cristel) Baker, all of Alliance, and Marjorie (Norman) Gamble of Homeworth; 17 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Arthur Elroy Baker, who she married in June of 1925 and whom died in 1978; her sister, Virginia Shaffer and her daughter, Florence Baker.
Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Pastor Pam Bruno officiating. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Mount Union Cemetery.
