Martha "Marty" Lee Courtney age 83, of Alliance, passed away Saturday, October 24, 2009 at Alliance Community Hospital.
She was born May 10, 1926 in Sebring to Sarafine Lee and Kelley (Harbin) Lee Caughman and lived all her life in Sebring until 2000 when she moved to Alliance.
She was a 1945 Sebring High School graduate and retired from Copeland Oaks Retirement Home where she was a receptionist and telephone operator for 25 years. She was a volunteer at Alliance Community Hospital for many years where she also was a secretary for the Alliance Hospital Auxiliary and served as scholarship secretary. She volunteered at Rockhill School in 2000 and Northside School in 2008 reading to 2nd grade children, who affectionately called her "Nanny Marty". She also volunteered for Top Gun Tournaments for years and the Girls Division I Basketball tournaments for the Alliance Athletic Department. Marty was a crafter for many years, taught arts and crafts and did many shows. She loved to cook and bake for her family and friends and loved to travel. She was an avid sports fan of the Alliance Aviators and the Sebring Trojans. She dearly loved her family and her precious great-grandson, Cameron, who was the sunshine of her life.
Marty is survived by her children, Susan Courtney (Greg) Donohoe of Alliance, and Gale (Shirlee) Courtney of North Olmsted; grandchildren, Ryan and Colby Donohoe, both of Alliance, and Nathan Courtney of North Olmsted; great grandson, Cameron Lee Donohoe; and two brothers, T.A. Lee of Alliance and Sy Lee of Westlake , Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
A memorial service will be held at 8 p.m. Tuesday at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Pastor Gordon Thomas officiating. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Alliance High School Athletic Dept, 400 Glamorgan St. Alliance, Ohio 44601 or to Northside Elementary School 701 Johnson Ave. Alliance, Ohio 44601.
