Martha Jeanne Heatherington, age 85, of Alliance died at 5:15 a.m. Wednesday, May 19, 2010 at Sterling House of Alliance.
She was born May 10, 1925 in Sebring, Ohio to John and Alma (Gaskill) Boyd and has resided in Alliance since 1946.
Marty spent nine years of her childhood at the D.T. Watson Home for crippled children in Leetsdale, Pa.
Marty graduated from Sebring McKinley High School as well as Alliance Business College. She was employed as a medical transcriptionist in the radiology department at Alliance Community Hospital.
She was a member of the First Christian Church in Alliance where she belonged to the 500 Club, Senior Disciples and the Leland Sunday School class. Marty was a driver for Meal on Wheels and member of the Alliance Senior Citizens Center.
Survivors include her son, Steven L. (Cheri) Heatherington of Alliance; daughter, Kathy J. Heatherington (Mike) Lever of West Bath, Maine; grandchildren, Jill Shook and Jennifer Shook, both of Baltimore, Maryland, Eric (Bekah) Heatherington and Stacy Heatherington; and great-grandson, Dylan Heatherington, all of Alliance.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jay Heatherington whom she married in 1946 and who died in 1985; infant son, Richard; brothers, Chuck and Jack Boyd; and sister, Betty Boyd.
A Memorial Service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 22, 2010 at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Sue DeHoff officiating. Friends may call from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Saturday. Interment will be at Fairmount Memorial Park.
The family would like to extend their special thanks to the staff of Sterling House for their care and compassion shown to Marty as well as the staff of Grace Hospice.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Alzheimer Association, 408 Ninth St. Canton, Ohio 44707-4714 or to the Shriners Children Hospital, 3229 Burnett Ave. Cincinnati, Ohio 45229.
