Martha Jean “Nickie” Nicholson Orwick, 97, passed away peacefully in her sleep on November 13, 2020. Born in 1923 in Mingo Junction, Nickie attended Mount Union College, was a sister of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority, proudly served in the United States Marine Corps during WW2 and was a lifetime member of Christ United Methodist Church. She loved to travel, win at Bingo, play the organ, cheer on the Mount Union Purple Raiders and bake hundreds of Christmas cookies to share with friends and family.
Carl Orwick and Nickie were married on July 4, 1946 and she spent most of her adult life in Alliance, Ohio where she raised her family, having recently relocated to Carmel, Indiana.
She was preceded in death by her husband Carl in 2011, parents Wilbur and Golda Nicholson, brother John, sisters-in-law Ana Boyle and Shirlee Carlson and a nephew.
Survivors include her children Philip (Joni) Orwick of Carmel, Indiana and Nancy (Gary) McCamon of Bluffton, South Carolina; grandchildren David (Beth) Orwick of St Louis, Missouri, Karen Bucher of Chicago, Illinois, Ryan (Victoria) McCamon of Silver Spring, Maryland and Kristi (Bryan) Valentine of Fort Drum, New York; great grandchildren Johanna Orwick, Calvin and Margot Bucher, Brynn and Riley McCamon and Ace, Emma Ruth and Mac Valentine; several nephews and a niece.
A graveside service with military honors will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 10, 2022 at Fairmount Memorial Park with Joel Szymanski officiating.
