Mary Ann Denny, age 93, formerly of Alliance, Ohio died on Friday, August 18, 2006 at Crandall Medical Center.
She was born June 22, 1913 in Alliance to Thomas L. and Myrtle Smith Bandy, and was the youngest of their four daughters.
Mrs. Denny attended the Alliance City School System and graduated from Alliance High School in 1931. She earned a degree in teaching at Kent State University in August 1932. Her first teaching position was at Greasy Ridge School, located in Knox Township, where she taught all eight grades in a one room schoolhouse.
She married Orlan C. Denny on May 24, 1933. They were able to celebrate their 72nd wedding anniversary before he passed away in July 2005.
In 1937 Mrs. Denny and her husband purchased Purity Dairy from A.N. Morley. She was secretary-treasurer of the family business and managed the office. The Dennys grew their business into one of the largest in the area. In 1965, they sold Purity Dairy to Superior Dairy of Canton, Ohio.
Mrs. Denny was a member of the Ladies Elks Auxiliary of Alliance, Mile Branch Grange, and a lifetime member of Bethel United Church of Christ.
She is survived by two daughters, Carol (Elvin) Barnett of Alliance, and Doris (Gary) Homan of Ellicott City, MD; four granddaughters, Karen (James) Lynn of Uniontown, Ohio, Linda (Kenneth Jr.) Harris of Beloit, Ohio, Elizabeth Homan of Montgomery Village, MD, and Jill Homan of Washington, DC; three great-granddaughters, Kathryn Lynn, Julia Harris, and Allison Harris.
Her husband, Orlan, her parents and three sisters, Etha Monter, Mabel Oyster and Emma Adams preceded her in death.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Rev. Jeffrey Davis of Bethel United Church of Christ officiating. Friends may call from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday. Interment will be at Highland Memorial Park
