Mary Aileen Armstrong, age 85, of Alliance died at 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 17, 2008 at Altercare of Alliance.
She was born in Alliance, Ohio November 18, 1922 to James and Aileen (Lane) Anderson.
A graduate of Alliance High School Mary was a volunteer at the Huston-Brumbaugh Nature Center, a member of the Alliance Historical Society, wrote and published two books of local history, and was a pilot who flew small aircraft with the Civil Air Patrol.
Survivors include her husband Gerald G. Armstrong of Alliance, whom she married August 1943. Mary and her husband raised five children who also survive her, Robin Touton of Las Vegas, Nevada, Dian Glaser of Magnolia, Dan Steele of Denton, Texas, Wendy Armstrong of Canton, Ohio, Bruce Armstrong, a U.S. Navy serviceman stationed in Hawaii; two sisters, Patricia Walborn and Jacqueline (John) Benincasa, both of Alliance.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother James Anderson; and a son Ron Steele.
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday October 22, 2008 at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Pastor Pam Bruno of the First Christian Church officiating. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday. Interment will be at the Alliance City Cemetery.
