Mary Alice (Duro) Carter, age 81, of Alliance, passed away suddenly Tuesday, July 17, 2012, at Aultman Hospital, surrounded by her two loving daughters, a son-in-law, two grandsons, a granddaughter-in-law and a great-grandson.
From the promise in her heart to keep her family together-to all the love she graced upon us and also to those people she cared for and the compassion for all of us, she peacefully passed into the loving arms of our Lord Jesus Christ. Even as we grieve, we rejoice at a life well lived and a loving heart of gold that never stopped giving.
She was born, August 3, 1930, to Herbert Hunt and Blanch Misner (Hunt) Hoyle in Canton, Ohio.
At the age of four, she was placed in Fairmount Children's Home where she grew up with five other siblings.
She went to Alliance High School and was in the marching band under the direction of what would soon be her father-in-law, Eric Duro.
She married Raymond E. Duro January 18, 1948, and later received her GED and in 1954, she graduated from nursing school as a registered nurse.
She continued her nursing career off and on for many years, until she started taking patients into her home to care for. She retired at the age of 74, after putting up a fight with her daughters.
Mary Alice is survived by two daughters, Cathy R. Duro (Rick) Miller and Mary Kay Duro-Patterson (Douglas) Litman; daughter-in-law, Marcia Duro; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Norma Jean Fagan, two brothers, Richard A. (Leigh) Hunt and Mr. Robert Hoyle; brothers-in-law, Nick Amantidies and Richard (Bea) Duro; sister-in-law, Gladis Hall; four stepchildren; three stepgrandchildren; special friend, Joyce Battershell; and Janet Burns, who she thought of as a daughter.
