Mary (Hampu) Dan, age 88, of Twinsburg, formerly of Alliance, went home to be with the Lord at 5:15 a.m. Tuesday, January 17, 2012, at Aurora Manor.
She was born April 17, 1923, in Scoriu, Romania, to George S. Hampu and Ana (Orzea) Hampu.
Mary was a graduate of Mount Union College where she earned her Bachelor of Education and Kent State University earning her Master of Education. She was employed as an elementary school teacher at the former Morgan School and later at Twinsburg schools before retiring in 1981.
She attended the Alliance Friends Church, enjoyed reading, talking and visiting with the sick. While living in Twinsburg, Mary attended the First Congregational Church and belonged to the Knitwitters.
Survivors include her son, Steven (Jane) Dan of Twinsburg; six grandchildren, Tiffany, Shawn (Carrie), Cory, Brittany and Devon Dan and Heather Walsh; five great-grandchildren; brother, George (Norma) Hampu of Alliance; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Nick Dan, whom she married June 20, 1942, and who died October 28, 2000; and son, David Dan.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 21, 2012, at Alliance Friends Church with Pastor Rick Sams officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Alliance City Cemetery.
