Mary E. Monter, age 85, of Alliance, died at 6:45 p.m. Friday, July 27, 2007 at Community Care Center.
She was born Aug. 15, 1921 in Wooster, Ohio to Walter and Nellie (Allen) Croskey and graduated from Geromesville High School.
Mrs. Monter was employed as a Recovery Room Nurse at Alliance Community Hospital for 49 years, retiring in 2000. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Maximo, where she sang in the choir and belonged to the Altar and Rosary Society.
Mrs. Monter volunteered as a patient advocate at Alliance Community Hospital, was a member of Alliance Senior Citizens Center, and enjoyed reading, gardening and refinishing furniture.
Survivors include daughters, Gwen (Robert) Edwards of Alliance and Patricia (James) Derry of Canton; four grandchildren, Renee, Kenneth, Lisa and Jacqueline; three great-grandchildren, Morgan, Taylor and Sydnie; and one sister, Bonnie of Wooster.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Kenneth Monter, whom she married in 1941, and who died in 1953; two brothers and five sisters.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Maximo with Fr. Thomas Ungashick officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Maximo.
