Mary Irene (Black) Marschinke, age 96, of Alliance, passed away February 18, 2014, at Alliance Community Hospital.
She was born in 1917, in Alliance, Ohio, to Marshall and Estella (Warner) Black.
Irene was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Charles A. Marschinke and her sister, Cora (Black) Jones.
She is survived by two sons, David Marschinke (Christine) and Brian Marschinke (Janice) of Alliance; daughter, Linda Brown (Robert) of Bluemont, VA; grandchildren, Elizabeth Marriner (Brett), Gary DePrill, Nicole and Tyler Marschinke, Miranda, Micaela and Marissa Brown and Joshua Brown (Annelise); and great-grandchildren, Jacob, Owen and Mason Marriner.
An Alliance native, Irene graduated from Alliance High School in 1935 and was employed as a secretary/bookkeeper for Consolidair, Inc., Warner Mill and General Mills of Alliance.
Irene was a member of St, Paul's Lutheran Church of Alliance where she held various offices, served as Sunday school teacher and member of the choir, and was active in Club 55 and the Deborah's Ladies group. Irene also volunteered as a Girl Scout leader and held membership in the YWCA and the Alliance Senior Center. She has been a member of the Ohio chapter of the Eastern Star since 1936.
Her hobbies included horseback riding, reading, handicrafts, gardening and traveling.
Per her request, Irene will be cremated, and a celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, February 21, 2014, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church with the Rev. Timothy Muse officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 3295 S. Union Ave., P.O. Box 3830, Alliance, OH 44601, or to the Pegasus Farm Therapeutic Equestrian Center, 7490 Edison St., NE Hartville, OH 44632.
