Mary W. Ebert (McNulty) passed away peacefully from natural causes on October 25,2016. She was 92. She is survived by her daughter, Lisa, her son, John(Joan), and grandchildren Rachel and Daniel Ebert.
She was the eldest of three children, including Margaret and Ed, born to Edward and Helen (Hess) McNulty of Phillipsburg, NJ. Mary graduated from New York University in 1946 with a degree in Music Education, the first college graduate in her family. In December 1946, she married her true love, Rev. Dr. Eugene (Gene) W. Ebert (dec.1984). Family, faith, music, travel and education were the themes of her life.
Mary was always active in the church leading youth groups, teaching Christian Education classes, directing the choirs and serving on the Session. She also was active in P.E.O. International throughout her adult life supporting education opportunities for women.
She served as president of the Alliance Community Concert Association for ten years. In 1984, after the death of Gene, Mary was hired by Columbia Artists Management, Inc. as a field representative for Community Concerts and for the next 15 years she traveled across the Northeastern US to assist over 80 communities in developing their concert series. She always enjoyed returning to Manhattan every year, meeting classical artists and attending concerts at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and on Broadway, before retiring from Community Concerts in 2000.
Throughout her life, Mary enjoyed traveling. She and Gene tent camped across the United States for their honeymoon. They enjoyed a second honeymoon sailing to all the Greek isles in 1978. The Ebert family always enjoyed the early summers at the Jersey Shore and later camping throughout the US. From 1976 to 1983, Gene and Mary would guide several groups from Alliance to the Holy Land and Rome. As a widow, Mary continued to travel with friends, ultimately achieving her dream of visiting all fifty states and all seven continents. Some highlights of her international travels include being on the maiden voyage of the Marco Polo sailing to Antarctica; climbing Machu Picchu, trekking across the Serengeti, snorkeling the Great Barrier Reef, visiting the Great Wall of China, cruising down the Amazon, and traversing the Panama Canal.
In retirement, Mary moved to Copeland Oaks in Sebring, OH, where she gave live presentations on her world travels recorded by her cherished in-house television crew in a documentary series called "Where in the World is Mary Ebert?". She also served as host of a weekly interview show called Roundabout, which highlighted various events and people of interest to the community, including her favorite segment on the Goodyear blimp with Mary getting to be the co-pilot!
