Mary C. "Kate" Zwick, age 86, of North Benton, died at 9:15 p.m. Wednesday, March 14, 2007 at Canterbury Villa. She was born in McGahesyville, Virginia on February 1, 1921 to Willard Roger and Gertrude Eleanor (Meadows) Huffman and lived all her life in the area. Kate was an Alliance High School graduate, a member of the A.H.S Girl's Basketball team and attended Mt. Union College for one and a half years. She was a homemaker and a life member of Vine St. United Methodist Church. A life member of the Crusader's Class, Kate was a member of the church choir, taught Sunday school, and served as the church secretary for more than 40 years.
Kate was always there to help take people to doctor's appointments or wherever they needed to go. For 25 years she judged the Halloween costumes for the North Benton Halloween party. She is survived by her sons: Dave (Lisa) Sigman of North Benton, Mike (Anita) Zwick of Beavercreek; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister, Polly Smith of Cuyahoga Falls; brothers, Bob (Dorothy) Huffman of Alliance and Rev. Ben Huffman of Alliance. She was preceded in death by her parents, 1st husband, Elmer Ellis Sigman, siblings, Bill Huffman, Doris Huffman, Liddy Huffman and Rev. Aubrey "Bud" Huffman. Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the Vine St. United Methodist Church with Rev. Melvin Lindberg and Rev Dave Sigman officiating. Friends may call two hours prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Smith Twp. Cemetery. Rev. Ben Huffman will officiate at the graveside service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Choir Fund at Vine St. United Methodist Church, 1544 W. Vine St. Alliance, Ohio 44601.
