Max R. Schide, born April 30, 1924, passed away peacefully at his home, June 13, 2014, after struggling for almost nine years following a severe stroke.
Born in Strasburg, Ohio, Max lived in Akron since he was about nine years old.
A United States Army Veteran, Max was a recipient of the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal for his service during WWII. Max retired from General Tire & Rubber Co. 33 years ago after working there for 40 years.
He and his wife of 68 years, Jackie, recently moved to Alliance, Ohio, 2 years ago to be closer to their daughter, Sherry.
Max was a lifelong fisherman and hunter, who spent many happy moments since about the age of 9, fishing at Wingfoot Lake. He was well known for his "delicious" fish and his garden of vegetables.
He was preceded in death by his dad, Clarence Schide, mom, Lottie (Shetler) Schide Cayton; and brothers, Dean Schide and Jack (Schide) Lenhart.
Max leaves behind his devoted and loving wife, Jackie (Leatherwood) Schide; his caring daughter, Sherry (Schide) Hustus and son-in-law, Nick Hustus; grandsons, Eric (Lila) Wohlwend and Greg (Ashley) Wohlwend; and great-grandsons, Deven, Ethan and Luke Wohlwend. He also leaves behind his sister-in-law, Sandy Kurty, of Austin, TX, who was there to help care for him in his final weeks.
Max was a very hard worker, good neighbor, Devoted Husband and Super Dad! He will be greatly missed.
The family invites you to say goodbye to Max at 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, June 18, 2014, at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home. A memorial service will follow at 6:30 p.m.
