Melba Cook, age 100 of Alliance, died at Alterra Sterling House at 8:05 p.m. Wednesday March 10, 2004.
She was born September 24, 1903 in Salem, Massachusetts to Walter and Isabel Crooks. Mrs. Cook graduated from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pa., and lived in Alliance since 1930.
Mrs. Cook was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, Alliance Woman's Club, Alliance Country Club, Congress Lake Country Club, Coterie, Whist, Red Cross, and Flower Garden Club. She was an avid bridge player and volunteered as a Pink Lady.
She is survived by one daughter Corrine (Arnie) Hirvela, three grandchildren; Diane Geiger, Emery (Nora) Hirvela and Scott (Robyn) Hirvela; ten great-grandchildren; Ben, Katie, Carley, Alec and Abagail Hirvela, Megan, Max and Jake Geiger, Justin and Jessica Smith; and one nephew, Roy (Bonnie) Handwerk, of Akron.
Mrs. Cook was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Emery Miller Cook, whom she married October 9, 1930 and who died April 21, 1971, one brother and one sister.
She will always be remembered for making everyone feel good! She will be very missed by family and her wonderful caregivers at Alliance Alterra Sterling House.
Interment will be at Alliance City Cemetery.
