Melvin H. Dean, age 78 of Deerfield, died at his home at 9:10 a.m. Wednesday June 14, 2006.
He was born June 19, 1927 in Decatur, Ohio to Arnold and Bertha (Binion) Dean and lived in Deerfield since 1970.
Mr. Dean was formerly employed at American Steel Foundries as a supervisor, and later was the Co-Owner and Operator of Spillway Marine in Deerfield with his dear friends Wayne and Violet Barker.
He enjoyed bird watching, wildlife, spending time outdoors and especially enjoyed his grandchildren.
He was a U.S. Army WWII Veteran, having served in the European Theatre.
Surviving are two daughters, Linda (Richard) Beck of Strasburg, Ohio and Connie K. Barker of Deerfield; four grandchildren, Michelle Bright, Melissa Bann, Jeremiah and Christopher Beck; five great-grandchildren, Ryan Leifheit, Matthew, Megan, and Mallori Bright, and Tristan Beck; four brothers, Kenneth, Gomer, Douglas and Gary; and six sisters, Reba, Lenora, Geneva, Janet, Loretta and Debbie.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Norma F. (Barker) Dean, whom he married Oct. 24, 1944, and who died March 5, 1969, and one son, Danny.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Pastor Joe Peters officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Park
