Melvin E. Haines, age 87, of Minerva, passed away at 9:50 p.m., Friday, May 6, 2016, at McCrea Manor.
He was born May 22, 1928, in Stark County, Ohio, to Edwin and Nettie (Griffith) Haines and was a lifelong area resident.
A graduate of Marlboro High School, Mel was formerly employed as a pattern maker with Old King Cole, Art Craft, Mandrels and Wean United.
Mel was a Mason and Shriner currently with Alliance Lodge and formerly with Portage Lakes Lodge. He was also a Marlboro Township Trustee for eight years.
Survivors include his sons, Edwin Haines of Wake Forest, North Carolina and Kevin Haines of Knightdale, North Carolina.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Thomas R. Haines, sister, Venette Weingart; and a brother, Floyd Haines.
Services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 14, 2016, at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Rev. Tracy Edwards officiating. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, May 13, 2016 at the funeral home. Interment will be at Marlboro Cemetery.
