Melvin P. "Mel" Martell Jr., age 71, of Alliance, passed peacefully to Heaven at 5 a.m., Tuesday, December 1, 2015, at his home.
He was born July 5, 1944 in Napa, California, to Melvin P. and Wilma F. (Dove) Martell.
Mel had been a diesel mechanic at the Chevron Oil Company for over 20 years and a mechanic with Coca-Cola for 14 years prior to his retirement.
He attended St. Joseph Catholic Church and was a member of the VFW Post 1036 of Alliance. He enjoyed working on cars, watching NASCAR and the St. Louis Cardinals and especially enjoyed spending time with his family.
Mel was a veteran of the United States Navy.
Mel is survived by his wife Janie Martell (Mary Jane Williams) of Alliance; daughter, Cathy (Dennis) Martell-Straight of Oregon; brothers, Derry "Pete" Martell of Tennessee and John Martell and Bill (Vicky) Martell, both of California; sister, Margie Dixon of Tennessee; brother in-law, Tim (Anna Lee) Baker of Ravenna; two stepsons, Don (Tracy) Cornutt of Colorado and Steve (Cheryl) Cornutt of California; grandchildren, Evan Cornutt and Tyler Cornutt of California and Jacob Martell of Oregon; two stepdaughters, Tina (Louie) Brush and Angie (Dusty) Stafford, both of Alliance; six stepgrandchildren, Heather Scaia-Brush, D.J. Stafford, Hayley Brush, Jimmy Stafford, Stormie Stafford and Hidee Brush; and step-great-grandchildren, Makala See, Khloe` Stafford, Eli Mabry Jr. and Waylon Mabry.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to his wife, Janie Martell.
