Melvin F. Yarnell, age 70, of Alliance died at 1:05 a.m. Friday, August 12, 2011, at his home with his family at his side.
He was born June 14, 1941, in Alliance, Ohio, to Homer and Alta (Byers) Yarnell.
A 1959 graduate of Alliance High School, he worked at Republic Steel and LTV for 40 years. He formerly owned D&M Seamless Spouting, the former Mel's Windows, and did construction work. Mel served six years in the Army Reserves.
He was a life time member of Beechwood United Methodist Church, member of Fairmount Grange, board member of Beechwood Playground for 50 years, and Marlington Band Booster for more than 20 years.
Mel loved trains, John Deere Tractors, and enjoyed watching the Cleveland Indians, Cavaliers, the Browns, and Ohio State University Football; but most of all, he loved all his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Christina (Grey) Yarnell, whom he was married to for 45 years; daughter, Cynthia (Gary) Schnebelen of Minerva; sons, William (Diane) Yarnell and Robert (Angie) Yarnell, both of Louisville; sister, Joyce (Dick) Lunde of Baltic, Ohio; and seven grandchildren, Olivia, Josh, Emma, Derek, Anna, Kyle, and Carolyn.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, August 15, 2011, at Beechwood United Methodist Church with Rev. Bob Miller officiating. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at West Beech Cemetery.
