Melvin “Mel” Russell, age 61, of Atwater, passed away unexpectedly at 12:39 p.m. Friday, April 3, 2020 at University Hospital in Ravenna.
He was born December 17, 1958 in Alliance, Ohio to Don Russell and Shirley (Lance) Russell.
A 1977 graduate of Waterloo High School, Mel was the Atwater Township Fire Chief.
He enjoyed hunting and gardening and formerly coached baseball. His greatest love was his family and supporting and being a part of the Atwater Community.
He will be forever loved and missed by many, including his children, Jarren (Jamie) Russell of Marlboro, and Jenna (Mike Morrison) Russell of Kent; his brother, Kenny Russell of Atwater, is sister, Kimberly Atwell, of Moundsville, West Virginia, and many extended family members.
Mel was preceded by his parents.
Friends are encouraged to drive through Atwater Cemetery Saturday morning, April 11th from 10-11 a.m. to pay their respects and honor Mel.
A private graveside service and interment will follow.
Memorial Contributions may be made in Mel’s honor to the Atwater Firefighters Association, 6570 Waterloo Rd, Atwater, OH 44201.
