Merle Wilson Morris

Merle Wilson Morris, age 87, of Alliance, died at 11:40 a.m., Friday, February 24, 2012, at his home, with his family by his side.
He was born May 10, 1924 in Alliance, Ohio, the son of Frances Susan (Woolf) Morris.
Merle attended the former Fairmount one-room school and graduated from Alliance High School. He retired in 1986 from Damon Chemical, after working for 40 years.
A member of Vine Street United Methodist Church, Merle volunteered for 17 years at their monthly Swiss steak dinners serving coffee; and was a volunteer ombudsman.
A U. S. Army WWII Veteran, he served as a paratrooper with the 511 parachute infantry 11th Airborne Division, discharged in 1945 as a Staff Sergeant.
Merle enjoyed fishing, bird-watching, reading, gardening, singing in the choir, spending time with family and friends, and taking in and caring for stray cats.
Survivors include one son, Mitchell (Marlene) Morris, of Alliance; five grandchildren, David Morris of Alliance, Daniel (Crystal) Morris of Alliance, Melissa Morris of Alliance, Ella Morris of Colorado, Stephanie (Morris) Monroe of Kingston, OH; ten great-grandchildren; five step-daughters, Juanita (Ron) Quinlan of Alliance, Judith (William) Saunders of Columbus, Patricia Dale of San Diego, CA, Nicki Palmer of Dennisport, MA, Jackie Lewis of Euclid; several step- grand and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 1st wife, Marilyn (Pinky) Green Morris, 2nd wife, Helen (White) Morris.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 29, 2012 at Vine St. United Methodist Church with Dr. David Bloor and Pastor Mike Kimball officiating. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Highland Memorial Park.
