Merlin D. Whaley, age 65, of Alliance, Ohio, died at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 16, 2010, at the Cleveland Clinic.
He was born August 30, 1945, in Beloit, Ohio, to Marion E. and Hellen Louise (Brown) Whaley.
Merlin graduated from Alliance High School and was employed for 28 years at SES as a machinist until his retirement.
He was a member of the Harvest Time Apostolic Temple in Hartville. Merlin loved fishing, gardening and tinkering.
Survivors include his wife, Cara (Lautzenheiser) Whaley of Alliance, whom he married March 27, 1982; his children, Cheryl Frederick, Theresa (James) Hubbs, Dennis (Tracy) Whaley and Jason (Katie) Whaley all of Sebring, Amanda (Shane) Skinner of Tallmadge and Holly Whaley of Alliance; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; brothers, Willard (Joy) Whaley of Beloit, Marion Lee (Shirley) Whaley of Alliance; and sisters, Frances (Don) Lanham of Bergholtz, Ohio, Mary Wood of Silver City, New Mexico, Alice (Tom) Loudin of Rock Cave, W. Va. and Patty (James) Roberts of Salem.
Merlin was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Rickey Whaley.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, November 20, 2010, at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Rev. Raymond Smith officiating. Calling hours will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday. Interment will be at Highland Memorial Park.
