Michael C. Sell, age 66, of Alliance passed away Friday, January 24, 2020 at Canterbury Villa, surrounded by his family.
He was born October 17, 1953, in Alliance, Ohio to Jack and Evelyn (Hutt) Sell.
A 1971 graduate of St. Thomas Aquinas High School, Mike also earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration in 1975 from John Carroll University.
After graduation from John Carroll, Mike began working with his father, Jack, at Heggy’s Confectionery.
After purchasing Heggy’s in 1979 from his father, Mike expanded the business, opening an additional location in Salem, and relocating the Alliance store from its original downtown location to its present site on State Street, owning both locations until 2016.
Mike was also past owner of Suntan Par 3 Golf Course and Sweet Jack’s, which was named after his father.
A member of Regina Coeli Catholic Church, he served on the church finance committee, and the advisory council at St. Thomas Aquinas High School.
Mike was a 30 year member of the Knights of Columbus, member of the Alliance Area Chamber of Commerce, and member of the former Downtown Merchants Association. He also had multiple real estate development interests around the city of Alliance.
Mike will be loved and missed by his family, including, his wife, Donna (Fergus) Sell, whom he married July 21, 1973; sons, Sean (Angie) Sell of Winnetka, Illinois, Ryan (Jennifer) Sell, of Haddonfield, New Jersey, Christopher (Julie) Sell of Salem, daughter, Megan (Michael) Suschak, of Mentor, and son, Patrick (fiancé Ashley Rader) Sell of Buffalo, New York; grandchildren, Madeline, Cooper, Willow, Anna, Makayla, Delaney, Emery, Jacob, and Nora; sisters, Patricia (Eric) Croskey of Canton, Susan (Mark) Partusch of Loveland, Ohio, Jane (Jeff) Jakmides, of Alliance; and many nieces and nephews.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, and son, Matthew Michael Sell.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 28, 2020 at Regina Coeli Catholic Church concelebrated by Fr. Joseph Ruggieri and Fr. Thomas Dyer.
Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday, January 27th at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home.
Mike will be laid to rest at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
