It is with great sadness we share the passing of our beloved Millie. Mildred “Millie” Ruth Johnson, age 100, passed away on Saturday, March 2, 2019, at Danbury Woods Assisted Living.
She was born February 18, 1919, in Marlboro Township, Ohio, to John and Nellie (Miller) Sweitzer and was a lifelong resident.
Millie was a graduate of the former Marlboro High School, Class of 1938 and employed with the former Alliance Manufacturing Company for 21 years until her retirement in 1974.
Millie was a member and volunteer at The Chapel in Marlboro where she was active in the Friendship Sunday school class and the Jolly Pilgrims of the church. In her later years she became involved with Marlboro Christian Church and enjoyed attending their events. She was a lifetime member of the Marlboro Historical Society and served as chairperson for the Lexington PTO.
Survivors include her son, Gary (Linda) Mayes of Bedford, Texas; daughter, Kathy (Lee) Weibush of Alliance; sister; Bernice Halverstadt; three stepsons, Robert (MaryAnn) Johnson of Marlboro, James (Pat) Johnson of Michigan and Glenn Johnson of Florida; three stepdaughters, Connie (Dick) Sledden of Florida, Barbara (Steve) Ilg of Wyoming and Davona (Alan) Trammell of Tennessee; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
From 2016 until her death, Millie resided at Danbury Senior Living. There she was cared for and loved by the entire staff which became her “other” family. Millie’s family will be forever grateful for their love of her. The family would also like to thank the Great Lakes Hospice for their care and support.
In addition to her parents, Millie was preceded in death by her first husband, Thomas W. Mayes whom she married on July 7, 1956 and passed away on September 24, 1976; second husband, Robert E. Johnson whom she married July 23, 1978 and passed away on October 19, 2001; and two brothers, Daniel and Gerald.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 6th at Marlboro Christian Church 9383 Edison St. Alliance, OH 44601 with Pastor Ed Harnish officiating. Friends may call prior to the service from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the church. Interment will be at Marlboro Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made in Millie’s memory to the Marlington Alumni Association, P.O. Box 6001 Alliance, OH 44601.
