Miriam D. Geist, age 90, of Alliance, passed away at 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 4, 2013, at Crandall Medical Center.
She was born December 1, 1922, in Louisville, Ohio, to Howard J. and Anna Marie (Kurtz) Sluss.
A graduate of Marlboro High School and Alliance Business College, she was a secretary for laboratory management at B&W Research and retired in 1985.
Miriam was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church. She was also a member of the Naomi Circle, Deborah's, Club 55 and a teacher of the women's bible class.
She was past president of Alliance Secretarial Association and the Women of Evangelical Lutheran Church. She was also a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority Zeta Xi Chapter.
Survivors include her daughter, Kathryn (John) Beckwith of Rutledge, Tenn.; grandchildren, Keith Beckwith, Lindsey Maurer Smilack, Sarah Beckwith Courtney, Benjamin Maurer, Jonathan Beckwith and David Maurer; four great grandchildren; son-in-law Craig (Jennifer) Maurer; and a brother, Ray (Ellen) Sluss of Sebring.
Miriam was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, August M. Geist, whom she married April 8, 1945 and their daughter, Donna Maurer.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church with Rev. Timothy Muse officiating. Friends may call from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, October 8, 2013 at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Interment will be at Highland Memorial Park.
