Mona J. Floor

July 5, 1931 — April 1, 2022

Newark

Mona J. Floor, born July 5, 1931, passed away at home on April 1, 2022, at the age of 90 ¾, surrounded by her loving family.

Born “Monnie” Binion but loved all her life as Mona, she was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Ross Floor, in 2001; also preceded by her father, Lee Binion; her mother, Mary Bradley Binion; 4 brothers; and 2 sisters.

Mona graduated in 1951 from Wellston High School in Wellston, OH, but lived most of her life in Sebring, OH, moving to Newark, OH in 2016 to be near her sister.

Mona was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Granville, was a member of the Heart of Ohio Quilt Guild, lovingly referred to as “Quilt Cult” by many family members and was active in a Euchre group with many lady friends. Her quilting group has been active in making “Quilts of Valor” for U.S. Service Personnel, sending them all over the world! Her hidden talent was that she was an amazing artist – painting many gifts for family and friends. She was also an awesome baker, making numerous wedding cakes for family and friends over the years and she made a killer coconut cream pie! Throughout her life she loved to travel and took family camping trips all over the USA when her kids were young. Then later in life, in her 70s, she became a world traveler! She visited amazing places including Switzerland, Austria, Central America and many Caribbean Islands. In 2018 at the age of 86 she went on a “Quilting Cruise” with her sisters.

Her legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of all that knew and loved her. And under the quilts that she lovingly sewed and shared with so many!

Mona is survived by her son, James (Melissa) Floor of Fort Worth Texas and their family, Don, Brandee, William, Tristen, Hunter and Sarah; her daughter, Sharon (Greg) Lewis of Lynchburg, VA; her beloved granddaughter, Amanda O’Neill of Ragersville, OH;  her sisters, Rosa Helfer of Newark, OH and Barbara Witzel of Clover, SC; and “Oodles” of nieces and nephews, great & great-greats spanning five generations, including her niece, Denise Haley of Nashville, TN who cared for her the last few weeks of her life.

A private graveside service will be held.
