Mona M. McGrew, age 73, of Alliance, died at her home at 5:10 p.m. Tuesday, August 9, 2005.
She was born February 6, 1933 in Beckley, West Virginia to Orville R. and Edith A. (Stephens) Phillips.
Mrs. McGrew graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Beckley. After graduating from high school, she moved to Washington, D.C. to work for the F.B.I. She later worked as a bookkeeper for the Alliance YMCA for 17 years and for the Alliance Chamber of Commerce for more than 3 years.
She was a member of First United Presbyterian Church. She was also a member of the Carnation Festival Board, and served as treasurer for five years. She was a member of the Alliance Association of Secretaries, Alliance Elks Ladies Auxiliary of the BPOE # 467, where she served as Secretary and Past President. Mona also enjoyed bowling and crafts.
She is survived by her husband, Frank Robert "Bob" McGrew, whom she married Nov. 6, 1961; one son, Michael R. McGrew of North Canton; one daughter, Micci L. Stansbury, of Louisville, Kentucky; two granddaughters; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary E. Stoll of Massillon, and Margaret R. Dentler of Virginia; and one brother, Lewis F. (Sharon) Phillips of Canton.
Mona was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Robert Jay McGrew, who died March 10, 1972; and two brothers, Carl E. Phillips and Kelly R. Phillips.
Her warm smile will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Pastor K.O. Noonoo officiating. Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Friday. An Elks Auxiliary Service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friday. Interment will be in Fairmount Memorial Park.
