Myrtle M. Greenawalt, age 83, of Alliance, died at 7:25 a.m. Friday, January 2, 2009 at her sister's home. She was born September 2, 1925 in North Benton, Ohio, to Morgan A. and Eldessa M. (Cameron) Lewis. A graduate of Alliance High School, Myrtle attended Kent State University and worked at Alliance Manufacturing Company and B&W before moving to California, where she worked at ITT General Controls in Glendale, CA. Myrtle attended First Immanuel United Church of Christ and was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary in Sebring, Alliance Manufacturing Retirees, and treasurer for the B&W Retirees. She also belonged to the Moose Ladies Lodge in Rosemead, CA, and was an avid bowler and enjoyed playing bingo. Survivors include two sisters, Matilda "Tillie" Roose and Marjorie E. Powers, both of Alliance; one brother, Eugene D. (Betty) Lewis of Westville; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald A. Greenawalt, whom she married July 2, 1949 and who died May 10, 1978; five brothers; and four sisters. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Pastor Neal Mann officiating. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday. Interment will be at Highland Memorial Park. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Alliance Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice. Arrangements are by Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home.
