Myrtle V. Phifer, age 87 of Alliance, died at 12:07 p.m. Sept. 5, 2004, at Alliance Community Hospital.
She was born Oct. 13, 1916 in Alabama, to John and Ethel (Powers) Pierce, and lived in Alliance since March 1993, after moving from Los Angeles CA, where she had resided for 43 years. She also lived in Detroit MI, for 8-10 years, prior to moving to California.
Mrs. Phifer attended many business classes at community and city colleges in California.
She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church.
She is survived by two sons; Alvin Longmire of Tucson, Arizona, and Samuel Longmire of Bay Point, California, one daughter Norma (Longmire) Jones of Alliance, eleven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and three brothers, Floyd Pierce, Edsel Pierce of Detroit MI, and Alexander Pierce of Palm Springs, California.
Mrs. Phifer was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband Alvin Longmire Sr., her second husband Clyde Phifer, one son Claude Longmire, one daughter, Hattie (Longmire) Payton, two sisters, three brothers and one grandson Alvin Jr.
A private graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday with Rev. Hugh Hookway and Rev. David Hostetler officiating. Interment will be at Alliance City Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at her granddaughter's Angela Hawkins home, 660 Fernwood Blvd.
