Nancy Ellen (Jagger) Kalin, age 69 of Canton, died at Hospice of Central Ohio at 10:00 p.m. February 16, 2005.
She was born July 7, 1935 in Akron, Ohio to the late Paul Warren Jagger and Evelyn (Conrad) Jagger.
Nancy graduated from Kenmore High School and the University of Akron. She was the founder and owner of Nancy Kalin Antique Interiors.
She was a member of The Zoar Community Association, Old Sturbridge Village, Society for the Preservation of New England Antiques, National Trust for Historic Preservation and Friends of Historic Deerfield.
Nancy's artistic talent was identified early in life. She received a youth scholarship to study at the Akron Art Institute while still an elementary school student. Over the years, her talent blossomed as her knowledge of arts and antiques grew, until, in 1974, she founded Nancy Kalin Antique Interiors. Her reputation as a gifted designer and consultant on antiques and period architecture grew quickly to international distinction. Her work has been prominently featured more than 100 times on the pages of national and international antique and design publications.
At the time of her death, Nancy was a columnist for the magazine "Early American Life". She will also be remembered as creator of the designer booth showcase and consultant to the Canton Antiques Show and the Zoar Harvest Festival each year. Her passion for creating led to lifelong friendships, as many of her clients became avid collectors and close personal friends.
Survivors include her beloved son, Mark Royal Kalin of the home, sister Mary Jane Jagger McDonald of Granville, Ohio, special friend John Abell of Alliance, Ohio, business associate Scott Mackall, nieces and nephews, Anne C. (John) Peterson of Granville, Ohio; Nancy K. (Bret) Butters of Durham, North Carolina; Steven J. (Jane) McDonald of Barrington, Rhode Island.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday March 4, 2005 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 2643 Waterloo Road, Mogadore, Ohio with Fr. Edward Wieczorek and Fr. William Bantz con-celebrating. A reception will follow the service. Interment will be at St. Joseph Cemetery.
