Nancy Elizabeth Puckett

d. September 7, 2011

Nancy Elizabeth Puckett, of Alliance, wife of former Alliance Mayor James P. Puckett, passed away her home at 2:15 p.m. Wednesday, September 7, 2011, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
She was born in Youngstown, Ohio, the only child of Emanuel and Florence (Magee) Evans on March 17, 1935. She resided in the Alliance vicinity since 1960.
Nancy grew up in Poland, Ohio where she graduated from Poland Seminary High School in 1953. She attended the Carnegie Institute of Technology, now Carnegie-Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pa.; where she received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology in 1957. At the Carnegie Institute of Technology, she was a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority and played softball.
She later attended Kent State University where she received a Master of Education degree.
She was employed by Alliance City Schools as a School Psychologist for 42 years, retiring in 1998. She also did some private Psychological Counseling for a number of years.
Nancy was a former member of State and Local Education and School Psychologist organizations. She was a member of The Alliance Woman's Club, Alliance Country Club, Alliance Area Republican Club, Alliance Area Senior Citizens Center and ASME Auxiliary. She was serving on the Board of Trustees of the Alliance Area Senior Citizens Center at the time of her death.
She was an avid bridge player and belonged to several local bridge groups. She also enjoyed playing golf, and was active in the Linksters at the Alliance Country Club. One of her regrets was that she did not start golfing earlier in life, instead of waiting until she retired.
Nancy loved all sports, but her two favorite teams were the Mount Union Purple Raiders football team and the Cleveland Indians Baseball team. She always said her favorite place to be was in a stadium watching the Indians play, be it home or away. For many years, she was a regular at the Cleveland Indians Spring Training in Winter Haven, Florida, and later in Goodyear, Arizona.
Nancy enjoyed traveling with emphasis on dining and wine tasting in the U.S. and Europe. Her friends all knew that if you talked to her very long she would say, 'when are we going out to dinner and where'.
Nancy enjoyed the company of three special dogs during her life, Scooter, Hud, and Indy; each of them living a long life. Nothing was too good for her dogs. Her travels were much more enjoyable if her dog could travel with her.
Survivors include her husband, James "Jim" Puckett, of the home, and stepson, Jim (Carolyn) of Tucson, Arizona; stepson, Jeff (Mary), of San Antonio, Texas; and twin granddaughters, Chelsea and Erin of San Antonio, Texas.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents.
Friends may call from 6-9 p.m. Saturday, September 17, 2011 at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Nancy's name to the Alliance Visiting Nurse Hospice Association, 885 S. Sawburg Rd. Alliance, OH 44601, or Alliance Area Senior Citizens Center, Inc., 602 West Vine St. Alliance, OH 44601.
