Nancy C. Summers, age 73, of Alliance, died at 12:47 p.m. Sunday, September 7, 2008 at her home.
She was born May 18, 1935 in Alliance to Richard J. Sr. and Beulah (Schwartz) Meyer. She was a 1953 graduate of Alliance High School and attended Mount Union College. Nancy retired in 1994 from Grove Refrigeration as office manager after 25 years of service.
Nancy was a life member and very active in the Alliance First Christian Church, former board member of the League of Women Voters, YWCA, Alliance Music Study Club and Girl Scouts. She loved music and reading. Many would consider her one of Alliance's "First Women's Libbers."
Nancy is survived by her daughter, Linda (Duke) Ferguson of Alliance and her son, Richard D. Summers, Jr. of Alliance, Ohio; a sister, Kay (Bob) Hobbs of Alliance and a brother, Charles (Wende) Meyer of Beaverton, Oregon; three grandchildren, Hillary Ferguson of Dublin, Matthew and Mitchell Summers, both of Nashville Tennessee.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Richard D. Summers whom she married September 4, 1954 and who died September 12, 2001; and an infant brother, Richard Meyer Jr.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the First Christian Church with Pastor Pam Bruno officiating. Family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Thursday at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home. Interment will be at Fairmount Memorial Park.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the First Christian Church Food Pantry, 1141 W. Beech St. Alliance, Ohio 44601 or to the Alliance YWCA, 239 East Market St., Alliance, Ohio 44601.
