Nelson Elroy Baker

Nelson Elroy Baker, age 92, of Alliance, passed away on February 5, 2023.

He was born on December 24, 1930, in Alliance, to Arthur and Martha (Day) Baker.

Nelson was a 1949 graduate of Alliance High School.  He then graduated from Cleveland Fenn College School of Engineering and worked as a professional engineer at Morgan Engineering for 74 years.

Nelson enjoyed competing in motorcycle racing as a member of AMA. He was also a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association and flew planes and helicopters. Nelson was a past President of Mount Union Cemetery Association. He also liked maintaining his property that he called ‘paradise’, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family.

Those left to cherish his memory are his children, Jackie Cruey, Tanya (Philips) Bennington, Neil (Joellen) Baker, and Lori Baker; his grandchildren, Angela, Jacob, Trina, Teresa, Tatum and Joseph; great-grandchildren, Aubree, Benjamin, Harrison, and Samuel; a number of step-grandchildren and great-step-grandchildren; his brother, Walter Baker; sister, Marjorie Crawford; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Evangelene Custar.

A visitation will be held at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home on Friday, February 10th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Interment will be at Mount Union Cemetery.
