Nelson S.J. Miller, age 87, of Alliance, died peacefully at his home on Saturday, November 4, 2023.
He was born June 30, 1936 in Canton, Ohio to Nelson S. Miller and Helen M. (Reikowski) Miller and was raised on a dairy farm in Jackson Township.
Nelson graduated from Jackson High School and further advanced his education earning degrees in Engineering and Tool and Die.
After graduating high school in 1954, he began working at Hoover Tool and Die, until he moved to Texas in 1967. In Texas he worked at Air Motor Engineering, then with Ben Hogan Company, before retiring in 2001 from Tandy Wire and Cable.
Nelson and Elaine returned to Alliance in 2002, where he was an active member of Union Avenue United Methodist Church, and served on the finance committee.
A cowboy at heart, Nelson loved his horses and participating in riding clubs in Texas. He had served in the Ohio National Guard, and was a member of the Mapleton Gun Club.
Survivors include his wife, Elaine (Blasenhauer) Miller, whom he married in 1986; stepsons, Eric (Cheryl) Leach of Canton, and Ryan Leach of Indianapolis; son, Ned (Pam) Miller of Wichita Falls, Texas; daughter, Karen of New Hampshire; and many other extended family members.
Nelson was preceded in death by his parents.
A Celebration on Nelson’s life and sharing of memories will be offered at 11 a.m. Monday, November 13th at Sunset Hills Memory Garden.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to ASPCA, or Union Ave. United Methodist Church.
