Nettie F. Buchs, age 98, of Alliance, died at 4:00 a.m. Friday, May 2, 2008 at McCrea Manor.
She was born on August 21, 1909 in Beloit, Ohio, the daughter of Jacob and Magdalena (Burri) Stryffeler who immigrated from Schwarzenmatti, Boltegin, Switzerland.
Mrs. Buchs was a member of the First Immanuel United Church of Christ and had been active in the Rhoda Sunday School Class and Ladies' Aid.
Mrs. Buchs graduated from North Georgetown High School and Alliance Business College. Her first job after business college was at the Strong Enamel Co. in Sebring. She worked as a Nurses Aid at Alliance City Hospital.
She retired from Easterday Pharmacy and was previously employed by England Drug, Turners and Isalys. Prior to moving to Alliance in 1945 she and her husband farmed in the Beechwood area. She enjoyed golf in women's leagues at Tannenhauf and Westville Lake, and was a volunteer for the Mt. Union Women's Club concession booths and Senior Citizen's Center. Gardening was a favorite hobby.
Survivors include a son, Robert L. (Bobbie) Buchs of South Euclid, Ohio, and a daughter, Marcene Buchs of Alliance; a sister Ella Griffin of Sebring; three grandchildren, Kristen Buchs and Tracy (Dr. Scott) Shell of Chagrin Falls, Ohio and Michael (Amelia) Johanson of Medina, Ohio; six great-grandsons, Zachary, Cody and Matthew Shell and Noah, Chase and Ellis Johanson.
Preceding her in death were her husband William J. Buchs, whom she married March 1, 1932 and who died April 24, 1988; her parents; seven brothers, William, Alfred, Harvey, Charles, Howard, Armen and Lawrence Stryffeler; and a sister Clara Carman. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m. Tuesday at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home, 75 S. Union Ave. Alliance, Ohio. Funeral Services will begin at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Neal Mann officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Park.
