Nettie V. (Ayers) Shutler

Alliance

Nettie V. Shutler, age 98, of Alliance, passed away at 9:21 a.m., Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at Altercare of Alliance.

She was a resident of Alliance for nearly 90 years, Salt Lake City, Utah for 6 years and Phoenix, Arizona for 3 years. While in Alliance she lived at the Hart Apartments from 1993-2017, then Altercare of Alliance.

Nettie was born October 3, 1920, in Cub Run, Southern Ohio, to James Edward and Christina (Barr) Ayers.

She was a member of the Alliance Church of the Nazarene for more than 60 years. She was a Sunday school teacher for 30 years, director of numerous children’s Christmas programs, costume maker for children’s programs and co-organized special dinners and funeral dinners at the church. She also volunteered at homeless shelters, fund raisers, etc. and received the Distinguished Service Award. Nettie was a self-employed seamstress and worked on the board of elections for several years.

Survivors include her daughter, Suzan Kay (Thomas) Hawk of Wesley Chapel, Florida; sons, John Edward (Denise) Shutler of Aurora, Colorado and Paul Douglas Shutler of Salt Lake City, Utah; special friend and confidant, Sherry Rhodes Kearns of Alliance; estranged daughter, Deloris Pritchard; twelve grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 44 years, John Henry Shutler whom she married March 13, 1946 and who died November 13, 1992; infant daughter, Linda Lee Shutler; sisters, Martha Ayers Miller, Alta Ayers Lee and Elsie Ayers Douds; brother, Roy Ayers and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 27, 2019, at Alliance Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Glen Davidson and Pastor Dean Marini officiating. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m., Friday, at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home. Interment will be at Fairmount Memorial Park.
