Nicolae Hampu age 84, of Alliance, died at 4:44 a.m. Sunday, July 8, 2012, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born February 24, 1928, in Scoreiu-Sibiu Romania, to Ioan and Maria (Hampu) Hampu.
Nicolae worked as a mechanic for American Steel Foundries, retiring in 1993 and later was employed by Giant Eagle for 15 years. He was also a member of the St. Nicholas Romanian Orthodox Church where he served as a past treasurer of the church council.
A veteran of the Romanian Army, Nicolae served from 1950-1954.
His survivors include his wife of 57 years, Leonora (Vulcu) Hampu; sons, Liviu (Otilia) Hampu of Michigan and Adrian Hampu of Alliance; four grandchildren; Jeff, Kristina, Nicholas and Kristen. He is also survived by a nephew Emilian Pampu and a niece from Romania, Mariana Muscan.
Preceding him in death were his parents and one brother, Ioan and a sister Viorica Pampu..
Services will be held at 11a.m. Thursday, July 12, 2012 at St. Nicholas Romanian Orthodox Church with Rev. Fr. Pantelimon Stanciu officiating. Friends may call from 6-9pm Wednesday at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. A Saracusta Service with be held at 8pm. Wednesday evening at the funeral home. Interment will be at Alliance City Cemetery.
