Nona L. Bales age 68 of Alliance died at her home at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday September 16, 2003.
She was born in Fairbury, Nebraska on April 11, 1935 to Neville and Lillian (Overhalser) Bales, and lived in Alliance since 1952. Nona graduated from Alliance High School in 1953, and attended business classes at Canton Actual Business College.
Nona became a licensed hair stylist in 1962, she worked in Sebring, taught at Alliance Beauty, she also worked with Richard Pinkerton at Continental, and Barbara Jane's Salon. She retired as owner of Nona's Beauty Studio.
She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school, and was a certified lay minister. Nona received the Canton District Lay Speaker of the Year for 2003. She was chairman of the communion committee, and staff-parish relations committee. Nona was also very involved in United Methodist Women's Group, holding all offices but treasurer. She was a member of Quota Club, Canton Hairdresser Association, where she had served as secretary, vice-president, and president. She was also a member of Hair fashion committee, and its secretary, and vice-president of the State Association of hairdressers, serving on various committees, and was in charge of their style show.
She is survived by her brother Larry (Joyce) Bales of Atwater, Ohio, two nieces, Annette Owen and Cynthia Whitman, and two nephews, Gary Bales and David Bales.
Nona was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, brother Fred, niece Elizabeth, and nephew Bobby Austin.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Rev. Hugh Hookway and Rev. David Hostetler officiating. Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Interment will be at Highland Memorial Park.
