Sebring

Patricia Errett Markley, born of William R. and Margaret P. Errett on June 14, 1928, passed into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior on December 11, 2019.  Pat was endeared to all who knew and loved her as a sweet and gentle soul with a kind heart and beautiful sparkling eyes and smile.  Her love of music, books, education, travel, and most of all her family, will remain as her legacy to those of us whom she leaves to mourn her passing.

Pat spent her childhood in Chatham, PA and enjoyed visiting her loving grandparents and aunts in Pittsburgh and Cincinnati.  After graduating in 1946 from Avon Grove High School in West Grove, PA, she earned a Bachelor of Arts in English at Hood College in Frederick, Maryland in 1950.  After college, she began working at the DuPont Experimental Station in Wilmington, DE as a library assistant.  She met the love of her life in church, and married William A. Markley Jr. on August 21, 1954, beginning another career as wife, mother, musician, and volunteer.  They moved to Alliance, Ohio in 1956, and Pat eventually returned to the library, working part-time as a Government Documents Assistant at the Mount Union College Library until her retirement in 1995.

Pat loved to travel, and spent many summers at her family home in Bethany Beach, Delaware.  As a young woman, she traveled to Bermuda and Europe with her beloved aunts. After marrying, she traveled extensively with family to England and many places around the United States.  She took many photos and kept detailed diaries of her travels that her family will cherish.  Pat was also a talented musician, and her family has many special memories of her playing the piano and singing. Throughout her life, she never wavered from the staunch values of loyalty, patriotism, honesty, and fairness that were instilled in her as a child.  She was a longtime member of the Union Avenue United Methodist Church, where she served in many volunteer capacities.  She also participated in United Methodist Women, Mount Union Women and volunteered with Meals on Wheels and other community service organizations.

Pat was preceded in death by her beloved parents and brother, William Russell “Rusty” Errett.  She is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Bill; sister, Jane Errett Vincenti of Chadds Ford, PA; children Anne Case of Dayton, Susan Reany (Lee) of Toledo, Bill Markley (Lyuda) of Erie, PA, and Amy Jones (Jim) of Salisbury, MD; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The family would like to give special thanks to the staff of Visiting Angels for their loving care.

Services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, December 21, 2019 at Union Avenue United Methodist Church with Pastor Coralee Cox officiating. Friends may call from 10 – 11 a.m. prior to the service at the church.  Interment will be at Fairmount Memorial Park.
