Paul H. Thompson I, age 78 of Alliance died at 2:55 p.m. August 25, 2003 at Mercy Medical Center. He was born March 26, 1925 in Alliance, to the late Glenn and Jesse (Walter) Thompson and was a lifelong resident,
He was a 1943 graduate of Alliance High School and attended Mount Union College.
Mr. Thompson served in the U.S. Navy as a Radioman 1st class being discharged in 1946. Paul worked as a U.S. Post Office Distribution Clerk retiring in 1989 after 43 years. He also worked on the Railroad Post Office between Pittsburgh and Chicago.
A member of the First United Presbyterian Church in Alliance, he also was a 50 year member of Conrad Masonic Lodge #271, a member of Dr. Roach Outdoor League and the Alliance Senior Citizens.
Survivors include his wife Lois E. (Wank) Thompson whom he married September 17, 1949, 2 daughters Paula (Lee) Springer, Gail Jefferys; 1 son Paul H. (Barbara) Thompson II; 3 grandchildren Jameson Springer, Nicholas & Noelle Jefferys, all of Alliance.
His parents and a brother Wendell Thompson preceded him in death.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, August 30, at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Rev. William Sadler of First United Presbyterian Church officiating. Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Friday and one hour prior to the service. Conrad Masonic Lodge #271 will conduct services at 6:30 p.m. Friday, which the public is welcome to attend.
Interment will be at Fairmount Memorial Park, with military honors provided by the American Legion Post 166 and VFW Post 1036.
