Phyllis V. Dawson

May 16, 1937 — November 25, 2017

Phyllis V. (Copeland) Dawson, born May 16, 1937, in Solon, Ohio, passed away peacefully at home, after a valiant battle with cancer, with her loved ones at her bedside.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Grace Copeland (1976) and William K. Copeland (2004) and her brothers, William R. Copeland (1990) and Charles R. Copeland (2013).
Phyllis was a member of the First Christian Church in Alliance and was one who "lived" her faith with her kindness and compassion for others.
She graduated from Alliance High School (1955) and later filled the role of a farm housewife: milking a cow by hand, riding horses, feeding and caring for all the farm animals, plus pets: a goat, ducks and countless dogs and cats. Along with the farm chores, she drove all the farm vehicles. An avid gardener, she canned and preserved her harvest.
Besides caring for her four children, she made clothes for them and attended their sports events, often serving as scorekeeper (Little League) and even Cub Scout Leader. She was a great cook at home and also cooked for seven years at the Frontier Restaurant in Hartville, contributing an original recipe to their menu. She earned her bartenders license, working for a few years at the Eagles in Louisville and the Kountry Klub in Canton. She graduated with her STNA and was a seamstress and caring, superb aid at St. Joseph Hospice (Louisville) for fifteen years.
Phyllis had many varied interests: bowled with a league for more than ten years; a member of TOPS Club (Taking Off Pounds Sensibly) serving in several official capacities: belonged to two quilt guilds and a sewing guild (still had many quilts planned when she passed). Her family and Friends were grateful recipients of her beautiful quilts and sewing/craft projects. She belonged to a card club and solved puzzles (jigsaw and crossword) and played Carom and Poker with her family.
She was especially fond of babies and was very nurturing. Children and adults alike flocked to her. She was ornery, clever, quick-witted, talented, generous and usually the life of the party. She was cherished by her family and friends, loved by all who were fortunate enough to meet her and got to know her and will be very much missed by all.
Phyllis is survived by her three sons, James (Barb) Lamp of Salem, Daniel (Chrissy) Kibler of Alliance, and Mark Kibler of Alliance; and daughter, Julie (Dennis) Sanderbeck of Monroe Falls. She has seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
