Phyllis Weber

Phyllis Weber, age 93, of Atwater, passed away peacefully on September 14, 2023. 

She was born on October 28, 1929, in Akron, to Stephen and Opal Oakes.

Phyllis graduated from South High School and continued her education at Akron University where she was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha. She returned to Akron University after her children were raised and graduated in 1976 when she was 46 years old. 

Raised in the city, Phyllis adapted quickly to the small town rural life and loved Atwater
Phyllis spent many years as a substitute in grades one through twelve teaching every class from history, to industrial arts in the Atwater and Waterloo school districts. She was active in preschool mothers, PTA, band boosters and served as a Girl Scouts leader.
As a member of the Atwater United Methodist for over 70 years, Phyllis filled many roles in the church including holding district office in United Methodist Women's Society. She cherished the love and support her church family provided throughout her life.

Along with her husband, she was active in the Atwater Historical Society and the Portage County Farm Bureau. Phyllis enjoyed working at the Randolph Fair in the collections

Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Jeni (Ken) Huth, Peggy Snyder, Teri Zachariah, and Stephen (Erin) Weber; grandchildren, Marcus (Rachel Petrone) Huth, David (Jenni Hankey) Huth, Garrett Huth (Katie Luechauer), Tracy (Nick) Latta, Diane (Brandon) Holmes, Jason (Wendy) Zachariah, and Alex and Kegan Weber; and eleven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 65 years, Gordon Weber; her brother, Duane Oakes; and son-in-law, Bob Snyder. 

A memorial service will be held at Atwater United Methodist Church on October 7th at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Tina Gallaher will officiate. Interment will be at Atwater Township Cemetery.
