Ralph Glenn Barber age 87, of Alliance, died unexpectedly at 11:10 a.m. Sunday, May 17, 2009 at his home.
He was born August 18, 1921 In Alliance to George and Elizabeth (Bauer) Barber.
He was employed by Transue & Williams Forge Plant for 23 years until his retirement.
He was a member of the First Immanuel United Church of Christ, Conrad Masonic Lodge 271, Alliance Commandry 67, Royal Arch Masons 83, Tadmor Shrine, Scottish Rite, Alliance Shrine Club, AARP Chapter 2630, Alliance Senior Center, American Legion Post 166 of Alliance and VFW Post 6730 of Sebring.
Ralph served our country proudly during World War II with Artillery Division Battery C, 446th Anti-Aircraft Division in the Middle Eastern Campaign and was the recipient of three Bronze Stars. His most important things in life were his home, family and all children. He was known as the popcorn man at the Senior Center and was especially proud of the many trips taking children to the Shrine Hospitals.
He is survived by his wife, Jean (Parke) Kemp Barber of Alliance; daughters Elizabeth (Gary) Miller of North Canton, Linda Bryant of Akron and Janet Murphy of Dolgeville, New York; son Richard Bryant of Massillon; step-son, James Kemp of Minerva; step-daughter, Judith (Ronald) Oberlin and Cindy (Richard) Wilkinson both of Alliance, sister, Betty Larkins of Sequim, Washington; and brother Clyde (Betty) Barber of Longview, Washington; sister-in-law Lorraine Barber of Eau Claire, Wisconsin; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Helen Barber who died in 1991; nine brothers; three sisters; and two grandchildren.
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, May 22, 2009 at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Pastor Neal Mann officiating. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Thursday. A Masonic Service will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home. Interment will be at Highland Memorial Park.
